You've decided to move forward with hosting from Creating Digital! That's great. Hopefully the process below will break down the process for you.
Gather the following assets for us.
- Let us know the current domain name. (www.<yourcompany>.com
- Domain Name Registrar Login (Godaddy, Network Solutions, etc) If you are unsure who your registrar is, contact us - in many cases, we can help identify which company was used and point you in the right direction.) You would often get this from the person who built your site originally, your it provider, or your business owner.
- If the person who is in control of this is unable to provide due to corporate IT policies or any other reason, let us know. We can provide them with the needed technical changes and they can implement them on our behalf.
- Current Hosting Login. This includes the following:
- FTP Information
- Control Panel Information (not all hosts have control panels - so this can be skipped if your host does not provide.)
- Admin Panel Administrator login (Wordpress Admin / Magento Admin / etc)
- Let us know if you are currently using email for the domain. This means someone@<yourcompany>.com. We like to know upfront if email is setup on the domain and being actively used by the employees as when we make the cut over we need to make sure that the email records remain untouched as to not interfere with email. Most of our clients are using email with gsuite, office365, or other services). If your old host is handling email for you, then we will need to plan out an email migration strategy with you as well. If you are using email on the domains but do not know who the provider is, simply let us know - we can usually identify who the provider is and point you in the right direction.
Once we are provided the information above, we will audit the credentials and make sure all work normally within 2-3 business days and plan the migration.
Usually, when we do the migration we will provide you with a planned date. During this date and time, you should not make any changes to the website code or via any admin panels as those changes may not be transferred over to the new hosting. Once the transfer is complete and the site has been tested, we will notify you.
The whole process normally takes a few days from start to end (once we receive and confirm credentials to completing the site move). We migrate Sites Mon-Thursdays. If your migration is an emergency, or needs to be done sooner let us know and we will try to accommodate.
Our recommendation is that you keep your old host for 30 days post migration, just in case you run into an issues we are able to compare the prior hosting environment and check. Once the 30 day overlap period is over it is normally safe to cancel the old hosting plan.
Two Factor Authentication
If you have two factor authentication turned on for any services, we recommend you temporarily disable the two factor authentication for the time period we will be logging in.
